When driving these craftsman mowers up and down grades, does the hydrostatic drive hold the speed steady so I wont have to ride the break.

My experience with these transmissions is that going up, the speed will be dependant on the angle and the height of the grass. It will slow the greater of each. Going down, the trans free-wheels and may gain a good amount of speed. Breaking could cause the tractor to do donuts. This was the reason I switched to a zero-turn mower.
