what about this kit can cause cancer? Should precautions be taken, if so, what are they.

Any cancer risk associated with this product would come from the plastic that is included, which could be its packaging, containers for the items inside the outer package and the sheets with the stickers to be applied to the wooden box.  For individual consumer use, prudence would call for promptly and properly discarding all plastic (other than the stickers applied to the box) and using care to assure that no plastic is ingested and that hands are washed reasonably soon after assembling and applying the stickers to the box.
