I am a first time owner of any generator. Can it get wet? Please help me (single mom of four)

Yes, this can get wet.

Generators obviously are used in a wide variety of weather conditions, but they should be protected from the elements to prevent electrical shorting. Protection for the unit must be provided in a manner that does not impede the airflow to the unit needed for cooling both the engine and generator head. See operator’s manual for details.
