What sort of support is required for this? I get that it has to be away from trees, etc.

What do you mean by support? If you are asking about set up a simple high enough to clear blocked areas.

Was this Answer Helpful ?You can use a simple board on which you can attach the base of the weather station with 4 wood screws, then attach the board to a fence, or, in my case, to the peak of my backyard shed at about 10 to 12 feet off the ground. They recommend that you place the weather station at lest 7 feet off the ground, and as you noted, away from obstructions. You can also put it on a section of PVC, but make sure it is the right size and that the PVC mast is secured well in the ground, against a fence or building. In my installation, I had the board laying around and they supply the 4 wood screws. I used long sheet rock screws to mount the board on the shed...try to make it as level as possible and have the solar cell facing south. Make sure that you use the two set screws to firmly mount the weather station on the base. You can rotate the station around on the mast the slides into the base so that it is oriented south, then screw in the set screws to hold it in the south facing position.

Was this Answer Helpful ?The manual suggests several things. 1. Install away from heat and humidity sources. 2. Away from sprinkler heads. 3. No obstructions overhead (rain gauge) and in open area for wind measurements. 4. At least 5 feet off the ground - higher is better. 5. Within 300 feet of the display console. 6. Mount as level as possible. 7. Orient the solar cell facing South. Manual suggested a secured length of 2x4 or 4x4.
