Is this a good tree for shade in a small backyard?


At maturity, this tree will be 40 foot across, so you will need at least that depth to your yard.

If you plant it slightly off center, it should lend you some shade in 5-15 years. When you start with a tree that small it takes it quite a few years before any benefits of shade can be realized. You may also want to consider that deciduous trees drop leaves. You may want to consider an evergreen if leaves are not desired.
