Can this be used to make holes for concrete footers in New England (Northern NH, to be exact)?

I used it to dig holes for my pole barn. I dug them all the way to the ground (about 36in deep). I took a post hole digger and chipped out the bottom of the holes to make the base wider. I didn't have any issues other than hitting a few big rocks. That stops it dead in its tracks. But clear soil, it digs just fine.
