Horizontal operation

I have operated mine at 30 to 45 degree angles to create nice holes for 5 gallon plants with no issues but never 90 degrees from vertical. I don't think it would leak fuel but it would be one heck of a workout for the operator. Getting the hole started would be a trick.

The fuel tank is not really the issue. The tank is actually made so that the auger can be started while horizontal on the ground, so spilling should not take place, but some angles could interrupt the fuel flow. The main issue is how are you going to support the auger and ensure the torque does not spin it away from you. I would look for an auger that has the motor on a separate base like the Little Beaver brand if I had to run it horizontally.
