For interior garage walls, is the exterior paint better?

You are right in that the exterior exposure is what is found in the garage. Use Kilz primer, then exterior semigloss. I suppose by now you have already painted the garage.

What ever you do will work. Exterior paint is a softer product than the interior paint. Exterior paint does not have the hardeners in it that interior paint has, because of the simple fact that people can easily touch the interior paint. They need something in the paint to resist the fingerprints. It's up to you, but I would put interior in the garage area, maybe in a satin rather a flat. You will not have to paint as often. The primer is always a good idea!

If the garage is unheated I would use exterior. If it is heated (more stable temperature environment) use interior.

Thank you for your interest in Valspar. Great question. I think many of us view a garage as more of an exterior space. However, given a garage’s interior is exposed to very little, if any, actual weather, we treat it as an interior, and as such, recommend the use of an interior paint.
