If you meant "primer" when you said "sealant", in nearly all cases it is very beneficial to apply a primer coat before painting wood. Two coats of paint does NOT equal a coat of primer and a coat of paint. And, a properly applied primer makes the finished paint coat easier to apply, look better, and last longer.
