Handheld Welding Torches for Metalwork Projects

From fixing leaky pipes and thawing locks to crafting and charcoal grilling, there are many ways to use a handheld welding torch. A handheld torch is smaller than a machine welding torch and versatile enough for a variety of settings and scenarios. Choose one at Lowe’s to take with you on welding projects anywhere, or to keep handy in case you need a spare or replacement.

Propane and methylacetylene-propadiene propane (MAPP) gas torches differ in flame temperature, odor and other ways. A MAPP gas torch provides more heat and energy. Choose a propane torch if you prefer a less expensive fuel or don’t want the odor from MAPP gas.

Many torches — including BernzOmatic torches — come in kits that also include cylinders, hoses, rods and other accessories. If you need various parts for welding, consider ordering a complete kit on Lowes.com to avoid having to gather items one at a time. You might even choose an interchangeable head so you can use a single tool to weld, solder and blow hot air.

Whichever type of handheld torch you use, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and be aware of your surroundings. For example, if you’re working outdoors be careful of the wind blowing the torch flame off of your work area and onto another surface. Wear the recommended safety gear such was welding goggles and welding gloves and keep a safe distance from the blower torch flame. Make sure there’s a fire extinguisher nearby.
