This drop outlet allows you to attach a flat-bottomed gutter to a downspout. A hole is cut in the bottom of the gutter to match the size and shape of the outlet. The outlet is placed inside the gutter, the flange keeps it from falling through the cut hole. The flange of the outlet is attached and made water-tight with solder. The downspout fits over the outlet to touch the bottom of the gutter and is fastened with screws or rivets.
