Before you install flooring or coat a surface with paint or cement, you’ll need to prepare your substrate so that the products work as intended. Whether you want to protect your new surface or optimize the look of your new coating, using prep mixtures is important for your new floor’s long-term performance.
Floor primer is an adhesive that helps secure flooring to the substrate. If your concrete, cement or other substrate is uneven, floor patch or floor leveler can help smooth out any rough areas. Skim coat is used to smooth, patch and fill cracks, holes and depressions. This makes installing a new floor with a perfectly even surface possible. Liquid membrane, such as MAPEI AquaDefense, prevents water damage and leaking by keeping moisture out from underneath your floor. A layer of underlayment provides cushion, support, insulation and sound absorption for your new floor.
If needed, you can use two or more surface-prep mixtures on the same surface. Alternatively, consider multipurpose mixtures that can address two or more floor prep needs at once. To save even more time, use a floor roller to help easily apply mixtures with wide coverage.
