Geocells are a unique building supply used for erosion
control. Geocells create a mattress-like layer that traps dirt or rocks into
place and stabilizes surfaces. They consist of several 3-dimensional cells made
of flexible and lightweight but durable high-density polyethylene or
polypropylene. Upon installation, the cells expand into a honeycomb pattern
that spreads out over the ground, wall or slope that needs reinforcement.
A geocell grid can be used for big or small projects. Once
expanded, they can span varying dimensions. They usually feature a greater
length than width by about triple, making them perfect for supporting basement
walls, roads or other rectangular structures. For bigger building projects like
gravel road construction, geocells can be extended one after the other for
lengthier support.
A knowledgeable do-it-yourselfer can use geocells for
confining walls or slopes of soil in personal landscaping projects. They can
even be cut to suit your project's unique needs. Geocells are easy to store and
transport due to being lightweight and flexible.
