What types of ceiling lights are best for general room lighting?

The best ceiling lights for general room lighting are usually flush mount or semi-flush mount fixtures with a wide shade and multiple bulbs. Look for high lumen output, neutral white color temperature and dimmable options so you can brighten the space for tasks or soften the light for relaxing.

How do I choose the right size ceiling light for my room?

To choose the right size ceiling light, add your room’s length and width in feet and use that number as the ideal diameter in inches for the fixture. For example, a 10-foot-by-12-foot room needs a light with a diameter of about 22 inches. In rooms with low ceilings, pick flush mount styles to keep clearance comfortable.

Are LED ceiling lights worth it compared to traditional bulbs?

LED ceiling lights are a good option because they use less energy, run cooler and can last 25,000 hours or more. Many integrated LED fixtures offer adjustable color temperature and brightness. They’re also low maintenance since you rarely need to change them out, which is ideal for hard-to-reach ceilings.

What should I look for when buying dimmable ceiling lights?

When buying dimmable ceiling lights, check that the fixture is clearly labeled dimmable and compatible with standard LED dimmer switches. Look for a wide dimming range and a color temperature that looks good at both low and high brightness, such as a warm white for living areas.
