Featuring a 24-inch stainless steel rod marked in 3-inch increments and an adjustable shock collar for protection during transport, it delivers clear readings on a liquid-filled, color-coded stainless steel dial: green (0–200 psi) for good growing conditions, yellow (200–300 psi) for fair conditions, and red (300 psi and above) for poor, compacted soil. Two interchangeable tips—a ½-inch for firm soil and a ¾-inch for soft soil—are included and store conveniently in the molded housing, which also has comfortable rubber grip handles and a hanger hole for easy wall storage. By revealing the depth and severity of hardpan, this tester helps farmers increase root development and yields, improve the effectiveness of fertilizers and pesticides, reduce tillage power and fuel costs, and enhance soil water retention—making it an essential tool for optimizing field productivity before planting or tillage.
