Self Installed good solid product and energy efficient. Wish my Samsung dryer lasted a quarter as long.

Proceed with caution

This unit was purchased and installed Feb '09. Being replaced Aug '11. Same situation as many others who have posted previously. Burned out lower element. Fried wires in the control panel. However, contrary to what others have posted, Whirlpool has been very helpful in getting this matter resolved.

6 years, no problems, does a good job

I believe this is the current version of the one I purchased. It was the top of the line in my local Lowe's at the time and came with a "lifetime warranty" instead of 12 years. There are just two of us in our household, but we have a constant stream of grandchildren (18) and their parents visiting overnight. I have replaced the board twice been nothing but problems with overheating and high temp problems whirlpool please fix this

Same problem with the control panel.The first time we thought it was improperly installed. But just like all the other heaters months later it happen again.I don,t think i would go with whirlpool again.

bad choice

if you get any electrical shurg in your power lines the computer chip will burn out. you will be without hot water until they can get a chip to you. we had ours removed and a standard water heater installed

very efficient electric bill lower

I would recommend this to a friend it's very quick heating and very efficient on power the 4 mode setting is great for different power reading levels my electric bill at least 20 dollars cheaper it's a great product

Control Panel Burned Up Twice

This hot water heater was in the house when I bought it. My wife and I had noticed a strange smell in the basement, but couldn't figure out what it was. One day, we had no hot water. So I took the top off the control panel and the wires had overheated (burned) in the control box. I thought maybe they had been improperly installed and there was a short, so I cut the wires off where they had overheated and reconnected. Watch Out!

I am a very well qualified DIYer at the contractor level. I purchased this unit 9/30/06 and it worked perfectly well. Then yesterday, 3/25/2011, I noticed water on top of the heater where both the hot and cold lines are. After first turning off the supply water, I then replaced the washers in both hot and cold lines going to the heater. Water back on and it still was leaking water. Finaly, I found out the the leaks were coming from the "nipples" that were pre-installed at the factory. OK, I call...
