I bought a different square but soon discover that it wasn't square, every cut was off a degree or two so nothing fit. I suspect sloppy tolerances. A square has one job be square and this square is square. Such a pleasure to use. I haven't used the attachment yet but I went through the instructions on using it and it would definitely help with out of square walls. Or the out of square cuts I made because of the un-square square.

Perfect for my uses
My speed square collection have grown. Some were the inexpensive plastic type that were difficult to read. Others are metal and again they are difficult to read as the number and markings are the same color as the device. Another two is the Empire blue regular and and big 12" model. For me those are too shiny thus reflective making them difficult to read. This Swanson hit a happy middle ground. It does not reflect the light hitting it blinding me nor making it difficult to read. The lettering is...

An Excellent Tool
Bought this Swanson tool since I gave my old Swanson 12" Speed Square to my Grandson to help him with any framing projects he might get involved in. I've had a tool like this for many years and think the highest of them. Super helpful when framing up an addition, a shed or a large shop or making a set of saw horses. Durable, especially when dropped from the top of a 24' ladder. Banged around in various tool boxes over the years and still stays straight and accurate. Very useful when guiding a ci...

Swanson 12" Speed Square
I needed to measure and cut out several risers for a staircase that I will be helping to replace. I wasn't having much luck using a square. After purchasing the Speed square and taking the time to read the accompanying Swanson Blue book, I was able to measure and mark the 2" x 12" boards in short order. The finished risers look like they were done by someone who knows what they are doing. The risers match up well when stacked together. I would recommend this square to both amateurs and prof...

A lot of thought went into making this square.
There are a lot of squares out there, but this is one of the better ones if you frame a roof or cut your own stairs. Lots of helpful gadgets on it, but they can get in the way of the work at times. Comes with a little handbook also, mainly for roofers and stair makers. It is solid and heavy, useful pencil line slots and protractor. And I have checked it 5 times-it is truly square and 45's are actually 45's!

It's not square
Either I received a defective product or the manufacturing attention to detail is lacking. This speed square is quite a bit out of square and unfortunately it took me a while before discovering it. If you are working on a project that requires accurate 45 and 90 degree angles I recommend checking it for square before beginning. I no longer have the packaging so I can't return mine.

Quality
Very nice speed square, I had initially bought a hard plastic one, this one is 100x more durable, the numbers are very easy to read (I'm over 50, and I don't have to use my "readers" with this). I've banged it, dropped it, bumped saw blade into it, no damage at all.

Perfect Companion to 6" Model
I bought this primarily as a saw guide for cutting larger boards than the 6" one can handle. I liked it because it was metal and didn't flex like the plastic ones. Works like a champ for the purpose I intended. If I ever get smart enough to use the layout features the included instruction manual will be a plus. I did not receive this item for free.
SWANSON SPEED SQUARE
I purchased this item as a gift for my brother-in-law who is deoing a lot of work on his home. I bought it because I have one and I figured it would make his work much easier and much better looking. This is a great tool for anyone doing carpenter work whether novice, diy'er or professional

Handy tool
This tool has multiple uses and does what it is advertised to do. It is not suitable for extremely precise work, but it is useful for most projects.
