I’m building an outdoor chair from reclaimed redwood with plans from Fine Woodworking. The plan calls for 3/8 threaded rod. I chose to use1/2 inch. I expected to be able to purchase this item in 3 foot sections as I needed approximately 9 feet. I had to buy 12 feet. It performs as expected.
