I replaced an old ball valve with this on main line before where it inters the house, this valve is much better quality, has a drain and mounting tabs I used to secure to wall. I used it to transition from PEX-b back to PEX-a for some connections I was doing on the mainline from the PVC to where it enters the house. And yes the plumber who did the work originally used RED PEX for COLD Water Lines, changed it back over to Blue between main and where it enters the house.
