What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this wood finish for its exceptional ease of application, fast drying time, and low odor compared to other oil-based products. Most highlight the food-safe formula ideal for cutting boards and countertops, with many reporting outstanding durability after just two to four coats that withstands heavy daily use. The rich, natural finish brings out wood tone beautifully with minimal effort. Some note the tinted versions, particularly ebony, appear less dark on certain woods like birch than advertised. A few experienced streaking or uneven absorption requiring careful technique. Overall, reviewers strongly recommend it for its professional results and lasting protection.

I like the fact that this is food safe, but wish there were more colors to choose from.

Not Good, left streaks
We decided on the Hazelnut stain to close match the darker floor. This stuff immediately draid and left streaks and swirls, even after re-sanding and second coat. Not at all worth the cost or secondary work I must do. DO NOT BUY!!

We're happy to clear things up. Rust-Oleum Watco Butcher Block Oil and Finish is intended to be applied as a food safe finish for small projects ...

Not good for hevea wood
Stain just does not penetrate hevea wood. I even called Rustoleum and followed their recommendations. Ended up being a disaster, will have to sand with 80 grit and up and I'm not messing around anymore with tung oil for this application.

Easy to use, relatively low odor
I used this to stain a new oak bassinet I made. The finish went on very easy, the color was not blotchy. It dried fairly fast, low odor (compared to other oil based finishes). If it started to dry out before I got it rubbed off, I simply reapplied a little wet stain and then wiped it off. Rubbing the finish made it very even in color (I had sanded very smooth so it would stain more evenly)
