I've been using this for years. I add it to the top of my clay soil, where it looks beautiful as a mulch. Then over time it penetrates the clay soil and conditions it beautifully. You can easily tell where I've used it in my garden and where it's still the old original thick clay. When I go back to a spot that's had the clay breaker and dig into the soil to plant something, the soil is so much more easily dug up with a shovel and is ready to host a plant without suffocating its roots in clay...
