Hinnomaki Red Gooseberry will bear fruit in its first year if you plant it early in the spring. The berries are a wonderful deep red color and they are big. The skin is crisp and tangy in taste, but the flesh is extraordinarily sweet. In fact, many agree that the berries are sweet enough to eat without sugar. In Spring it has large, dark red berries and green foliage that looks like grape leaves. In the fall, those leaves turn a lovely autumn red.
