We bought this larger pack of clips for our TimberTech boards. These are a bit more time consuming than the Trex options, but this type is what was specified for TimberTech composite boards.
Metal is Preferred Over Plastic
I'm sure the manufacturers have developed a reasonable formula for the plastic hidden fasteners, but most plastics degrade with thermal cycling and UV exposure, so I'd rather use the metal clips for assured strength and longevity. not sure why so many people have issues installing these, with level joists and attention to the fastener installation, these install just fine. The set could include some extra screws, the ones included are a little tough to find replacements for.

I used these clips on a recent 12x12 deck at my Hawaii vacation home. I needed to replace a rotting outdoor pool deck and these were the perfect way to keep potentially hot metal screws from the deck surface and result in a fantastic look.

Hard to use with joist tape. Ended up having to bend the tab up for the next board.

The clips worked well. Just line them up nicely and give the head of the screw a small tap to start it. Had no problem getting the next board to start into the previous board. The screws are cheap and bend easily and often strip. The stripping screws are frustrating. First time I used Trex boards so I can’t compare the clips to others because I haven’t tried them. My gaps were consistent throughout the project. For the price they should have better screws.

Screws are poor quality.
Overall, the clips are fine. The screws are very poor quality. I had a few heads break off before the screw was driven home and several stripped. I wouldn’t expect this with a square drive screw.
