Solitary Beach portrays palm trees in a neat row, against a pale sky and peaceful ocean. This is clearly the lonely boulevard of a coastal city, yet these trees stand between the urban and the wild, caught in place. This image is desaturated to the point of being almost monochrome, so the trees are black and white, almost skeletal. This adds to the feeling of loneliness and makes us see their waving fronds in a new way, as spiky and forlorn things.
