Not a disposal flange like they say. It is a plastic insert with a strainer. Pull the strainer out and the entire insert comes out sometimes

Ferrule fails after a couple of years.
Over 5 years I have had the ferrule fail due to corrosion on two different drains. After the first one failed, Elkay sent a replacement but that failed as well. Should be a stainless steel part but as the picture shows, clearly rust.

This came with my new sink and it is a horrible design. The basket is in two parts held together with a o ring. The store I bought it from replaced the whole basket. A few weeks later, it happened again but magically my garbage disposal spit a o ring out at me. I couldn't figure out where it came from but on further investigation I see the two parts are held together by a o ring and so fixed it myself. Beautiful sink - drain insert stains
Our sink is a year old. It is beautiful and we have had no issues with the drain flange and our garbage disposal as many other reviews mentioned. The issue we have is with the drain basket strainer and stopper. It stains and discolors and we have had to replace it twice. (item LKQD35) The sink does not stain at all (parchment color) so it is odd that the basket strainer and stopper, particularly the 1" ring that sits flush to the sink stains terribly. I’m shocked!
After having this spectacular sink 6 1/2 months, I just today discovered that the garbage disposal flange is removable. I was blaming the plumbing installer for not fitting it flush so food doesn’t get caught in the crease. This bugs me, but now that I know I can just pull it out to use the disposal made my day.

Waste of money
very disappointed in this design. I have had to reordered this twice and both times the little washer on the bottom comes off down the drain and then the 2 pieces are no longer together.
