What Customers Are Saying
The cobalt drill bit has mixed reviews. Some customers found it to be an excellent and durable tool that performed well even on tough materials like steel. However, others experienced issues with the bit breaking or becoming dull quickly. The positive reviews highlight the bit's ability to easily drill through metal without becoming dull. Customers appreciated the self-drilling pilot hole feature and the sharpness of the bit. However, a significant number of customers reported problems with the bit, such as the tip breaking or the bit becoming unusable after drilling just a few holes, even in relatively soft materials. The overall consensus is that the bit's quality and longevity are inconsistent.

drilled right thru the wheel stud on my car that had broken loose from the rotor with the lug nut still on it. Firestone was totally incompetent and had no clue how to remove a busted stud. even though it was pricey it did the job. Be sure to keep bit cool with oil otherwise you will burn it up.

Not for Stainless Steel electrical panels
I had high hopes for this cobalt drill bit but was let down. Started with a 3/8" pilot hole in 14 gauge 304L SS. This thing was dull before I finished. It barely got the job done but I still had 5 more holes to figure out. Might have been ok on a thinner gauge, like home appliances.

Don't Waste Your Money
For $26, you would think that this would be a high-quality drill bit. Unfortunately, it dulls so fast that I only drilled two holes, in a 1/2-inch steel plate. I tried sharpening it with my Dremel tool, with limited success. I looked at some of the other one-star reviews, and realize that I'm not the only one. This drill bit definitely isn't worth $5, let alone $26. As another reviewer pointed out, the smaller diameter, cobalt drill bits, last a lot longer. I've had good performance with th...

bit are a piece of junk
I purchased this item thinking it would better than the cheaper drill bits i was totally wrong. Was drilling a hole in 3/8 inch steel before i got the hole drilled the bit was burned up. I went to the truck and got a old cheap bit to finish the hole. will never purchase another thinking the price makes the difference in quality.

It's a solid Drill bit. Works well!
It's a metal drill bit. I have been using this to help cut through metal studs to help install toggle bolts and other fasteners to metal. Works well, and cuts through easily. Makes jobs a lot easier!

Dewalt 1/2 in. Pilot Point Cobalt Twist Drill Bit
I like these pilot point drill bits because they will not walk off of your center punch mark, the pilot point starts drilling right on the mark, sure saves you a lot of grief and botched drilling, especially if you are not using a drill press. I will use a pilot point drill every time now as long as the size i need is available. J.R.

Dewalt 1/2" Cobalt Twist Drill Bit- Doesn't Cut It
I placed this order online along with about 50 1/2" bolts, washers and nuts. Needed something to cut through the metal on my trailer frame so I could install 8 pieces of 6x10 lumber. After all the research I could find, everything seemed to point to Cobalt as the best thing to use. They also said to predrill the holes to help. I already had a 1/8" bit so I purchased this 1/2". The 1/8" did great but the Dewalt 1/2" got dull after just 5 holes. Went to another hardware store, closer to home...

Do not buy, not worth the money.
Pilot tip broke on the very first use rendering then drill bit useless. I returned the drill bit to Lowe’s for a full refund. I would not recommend and will not purchase again.

Got The Job Done
I was in the middle of a project and needed a 1/2 inch drill bit. This did the job, but $27 for one drill bit is too expensive.

Great bit, but...
These bits are awesome! I drilled through multiple pieces of cold rolled steel and the frame of my old pickup. The only problem I had, is that I broke 2 of them while drilling the frame. I want to emphasize that this is not a fault in the bit. This is misuse on my part, if you will. Will drilling the steel stock, I used a bench vice and kept the drill steady. Drilling the frame, however, made this difficult. Be careful of angles and catching with the bit. It wasn't the first, second or ev...
