What Customers Are Saying
The product is generally effective at filling small holes and gaps in wood, but has some notable drawbacks. It dries and hardens very quickly, making it challenging to apply smoothly. The packaging can be inconsistent, with some cans only partially full. While suitable for basic repairs, the filler may not be ideal for larger jobs or shaping, and the quality can be variable. Users recommend working quickly and having acetone on hand to thin the product if needed.

DAP wood filler is worked really well on filling some small blemishes and scratches on a wooden door I was prepping for a finish. After drying and a light sanding, the final product came out looking great. However, this product dries really quickly on wood and in the can so be prepared to apply and reseal the can or it will dry out.
Looked good as new when finished
It takes a little practice and a lot of sanding, but did a very good job repairing window sill that had been damaged by dogs. The putty is very sticky and can be a little hard to manipulate into the damaged area, but once in place holds very well
Saved so much money
This DAP Plastic Wood saved me a fortune on a window frame that I honestly thought was a goner. The wood was starting to look pretty rough and weathered, and I was dreading the cost of a full replacement, but this stuff bridged the gap perfectly. Because it’s solvent-based, it dries incredibly hard and actually feels like part of the wood once it sets, which gave me a lot more confidence in the structural repair than the water-based stuff ever could. It dries fast—almost too fast if you’re not c...
It's the good stuff
it's the good stuff. Sand in 15 min. Keep some acetone around, as it tends to dry out in the can no matter how tightly you try to seal it.
50/50
Dried very quickly. Almost too quickly to work with. As soon as the can was opened a skin started forming over the top
Works as advertised
There is a very small learning curve, but I am super inexperienced. It gets the job done. You can sand it and paint it. No complaints.
works as advertised
this worked great! I had some deck boards that had cracks and this completely did the trick. Easy to apply, quick to harden and completely sandable and stainable.
Pinocchio Nose
Plastic Wood is a very good product that can be used to repair both small and large areas of damaged wood. For larger repairs, it does take more time to properly fill deeper gaps, often requiring multiple applications. However, once it hardens, it performs very well and can be sanded to a smooth finish. I’ve also had great success with color matching. Plastic Wood takes stain nicely and works well with both oil-based and acrylic paints.
Can be useful to rectify wood rot.
It seems to adhere to wood, as I used it to rectify wood rot removal.
