The pole pruner is a useful tool for trimming and pruning trees and shrubs. It has a sharp saw blade that can easily cut through branches up to 1 inch thick. The lightweight design and chain-operated cutter make it effective for reaching high branches. However, some users reported the pole and saw can become unwieldy and difficult to control when extended to the maximum length. The pole locking mechanism has also been an issue, with the pole sometimes slipping even when tightened. Overall, the tool is generally effective, but may have some design flaws that affect its performance at the maximum extension.

This is a GREAT tool - no complaints. Those of you complaining about the spring not being strong enough, or the saw blade not staying in place, have not set the tool up properly. The supposedly "weak" spring is fine; the problem is that the bolt that holds the lopper blade in place is also the bolt that holds the saw blade in place - and those of you having problems with the spring have tightened that bolt down too tightly - and the spring isn't strong enough to overcome the grip of that bolt....
Do Not Buy This Saw!
I am simply pasting my message to Corona Tools for your consideration... It says it all! Hello Corona Tools, I recently purchased your 16' Pole Saw / Pruner (From Lowe's) I have been using Corona Tools for over forty years both privately and professionally. I have been needing a longer pole saw for quite a while, and this summer the need exceeded the wait, and so I investigated, and being a "Corona Guy" I bought the 16'. The first thing that came to light is that the pull pruner looks to have a ...
Great blade but heavy handle.. Not for average joe
The most expensive corona hand pruner has the most effective and sharp saw blade. it is the reason I bought it. I found out however 16 feet of fiberglass handle is a bit heavy to operate while pushing upwards; same token it works better when pulling down on it (gravity) while operating it (I am a strong dude). It is definitely heavy duty built; but definitely not built for sissies nor effeminate males. I did not buy the step down from this particular one because the saw blades look generic; and ...
functional
The first thing I tried to cut ... while the pole was fully extended, was a branch about 3/4 of an inch thick. The pole has a lot of flex, making it difficult to gain leverage while cutting. The place is sharp enough, but the chain/pulley can sometimes not recoil properly and create an issue. It does cut through some thickness of branch easier when the pole is not fully extended. I would not attempt to cut anything thicker than a 1/2 inch, fully extended. The pole also begins to show its wei...
Big design flaw
Overall the pruner is very sharp, and easily sliced through branches. For those who are not familiar with the design, there is a spring that holds the pruner jaws open, and a long rope that you pull down on to close the jaws and make the cut. You raise the pole up, hook the pruner over the branch you want to cut, pull the rope, very simple. It worked perfectly when I had it at 8' high. But when I fully extended it to 16' and held it vertical, the weight of 16' of the nice heavy-duty rope pro...
Well built, priced right
This pole saw is super sturdy, has a long reach and cuts great. Bought this to replace my original one that I had for, no lie, 40 years. The rope had broken and the saw was totally bent and rusted, so I bought this one. This one has a chain pulley where the old ones rope had broken, but if the chain breaks I could repair it like a bicycle chain.
Know this pruner's deficiencies before buying one.
I bought this 16-ft pruner because my property is full of very tall trees, I wanted the maximum pruner length possible, and I had damaged my old Sears pruner of many years when a ladder fell on one of the poles, splitting it. I share the following Corona experiences with other reviewers. Being on the small side, I find it heavy and difficult to manipulate, particularly when fully extended, but I accept this. The most irritating deficiency for me though is that no matter how much I tighten the...
Good pruner, poor longer term quality
Good pole pruner for both cutting larger limbs with the saw as well as cutting smaller limbs with the bypass cutter. One major flaw in design is the working head, which according to the manufacturer is heavy duty zinc alloy (AKA pot metal). You can be sure this working head will fracture and fail (as mine did) even with light to moderate use. On the upside, Corona stands behind its warranty and will replace the entire unit when it fails. (Corona—you can do better).
Rusted over winter in my garage?
This worked well for one season. I pulled it out this summer and the chopper mechanism has rust all over it. I have no idea how it got this way. Our garage is hardly even damp in the winter. It was in a corner? I’m guessing it doesn’t take much to rust. No big deal. I looked for the replacement parts… and they’re more than the entire tool itself. I’m going to buy a cheaper one this time with affordable parts. Who knows. Maybe they won’t rust this horribly.
Corona16 ft pole saw
The Corona 16 ft pole saw for the price is a good buy the two problems with the saw the number one issue is the return spring on the saw it will not return the blade after any size cut so you have to bring it back down an manual pull the blade back to neutral position so you can make the next step after reading other reviews I see that this has been going on for a very long time it appears that the Corona company does not read the customer reviews you would think that what their customers concer...
