Electrical Box Extender
I put up a 1/4 in. pegboard in my workshop. It covered a switch and electrical outlet. The pegboard was mounted with 3/4/1-1/2 wood strips for the necessary standoff. I needed a way to get the switch and outlet flush with pegboard surface. To support the pegboard at the edges of the existing boxes. now I needed a safe way to reconnect the switch and outlet. I found one inch electrical box extenders, package of two for less than $5.00. The box extenders slipped in to the existing box with no pro...
I use these boxes to extend old work boxes. With a fine tooth hacksaw blade and a new blade in the utility knife I can trim the extenders to match the thickness of added drywall or paneling. We designed an upward extension from the baseboard to give duplex outlets an “industrial” outline look. The screws provided for fastening the outlet and extender is long enough to match the 3/4” boards’ thickness.
Great product!
This item is great when working with old houses and you just need to get those outlets right. I just didn’t like having to pay double just for shipping. But when the stores are all out of everything you need, your options are limited. But it worked great when I got it.
Didn’t fit a standard old work junction box
I wanted these to bring out an old work junction box while putting in a slat wall in my garage. Thought they would slide in perfectly as shown...didn’t fit. Returned.
Worked perfectly
The original construction gang box was not mounted properly which left by outlet very recessed in the wall. This device brought the outlet to where it should be and allowed me to put wall plate over it.
So-so
I have used these before without any problems, but i think the opening width has been narrowed just a tiny but. The opening was too tight for GFI recepacles, and the flange didnt seem to be as large either.
Included screws are SHORT
Works, as described, but screws are too short. I'm extending about 3/4". No way will the screws work for 1". Bought some #6 3" to get it done.
No old work boxes
"Excellent for remodeling" it says on the package. Unless you are using a remodel box. Then not so much. These only fit new work boxes and my local Lowe's doesn't have any other box extenders. Guess I'm going to the "other" store.
Worked perfectly
Purchased this ad the stud I attached my box to was not sticking out as far as it should have (warped) and was set too deep. Worked perfectly for my regular outlet. It was a tight squeeze for my GFCI outlet, but I was able to get it in after a bit of muscle!
Works ...a few concerns
Works fine as a single box extension...Not so good as double box. For my application, wire leading between the switches was too short to fit around the center divide, so had to replace wire. Also, not as easy getting receptacles through box because of size, doable, but a slow down, Also, the screws were too short that were included and had to use 1 1/2" package of #6's.
