Help! A company called "Bonnie Plants" sent me "Spearmint (yerba buena)" but that seems totally wrong according to my research. I am into biology, so getting the genus and species right is important to me. My research suggests that I should be seeking Mentha spicata. This remains a one star review until I speak to someone who knows their mints by genus and species.

Sweet Mint
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my Sweet Mint from Bonnie Plants is such a beautiful large leaf fragrant plant in the mail (packed perfectly for planting) and I gave it time to get well rooted and let me tell you I have enjoyed every moment of this process. I grows extremely well in a garden bed but I placed it in a pot because when I did a little research I found it spreads aggressively but I allowed it all the fresh air, sunshine and much needed rain from up abov...

Fantastic Taste. Great for Mint Juleps!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Bonnie Sweet Mint arrived on my doorstep on April 3, 2020 in "mint" condition! I kept it in its pot for a couple weeks outdoors moving between shade and sun. Planted it on April 25, 2021 in the yellow pot beside the house in a shady area. The plant has done amazing. Have made some excellent Mint Juleps and plan to make more this weekend for the Kentucky Derby. The Mint has a nice sweetness to it but not overwhelming. The Mint has been u...

Great for cocktails
This is a spearmint, not a peppermint. It does not have that medicinal menthol taste so some folks are complaining about lack of flavor. However, menthol and alcohol taste HORRIBLE together! Use a spearmint like this for mojitos, mint juleps, etc. and use peppermint for candy and digestion teas.

Very weak mint smell and taste
This variety grows very easily and looks nice, but when it comes to actual use in food or beverages, it is practically without any merit besides as a garnish. The smell and taste is pleasant on its own if eaten raw, but because the potency of its menthol is so weak (about 10% of the spearmint variety) the amount of leaves that would have to be used in order to provide any district mint flavor in a dish makes me unable to utilize this plant in almost all recipes calling for "mint". I would liken ...

Sweet Mint for the win
The plants were nicely packaged for shipping, and appear to be in good health. Mint is so lovely to have on hand. They're a nice addition to tea or lemonade and other drinks as well. A great summer plant!

Smells/Tastes great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bonnie Plants - Sweet Mint smells and tastes great. This plant is very healthy and has been since it arrived. I can honestly say, I'm very surprised at how much this plant has grown in the short time I've had it, but it is doing well and very productive.
