Neoregelia ‘Gazpacho’ is one deliciously intense-looking bromeliad. If you have an appetite for elevated color and drama from your indoor or patio garden, this epiphytic stunner should be quite satiating. ‘Gazpacho’, a large-sized bromeliad, sports bold red banding and speckling across its green leaves, which looks even more vibrant when exposed to high light. Be prepared to give it space to spread out and show off its dramatic colors. It almost looks like the leaves are on fire. The foliage is pretty tough and waxy, with a terminal spine adorning each leaf. In summer, keep the soil moist, but in winter allow it to dry completely before watering. The center cup, or tank or vase, is where the flowers will eventually appear. After the plant flowers, the rosette dies but is succeeded by offsets, or pups, produced by the plant. It should be kept filled with water year-round. Flush out completely every couple of weeks to avoid stagnant water. Rainwater or distilled water preferred, as tap water causes mineral buildup. Provide bright, indirect light and good airflow. Neoregelias are light feeders. They prefer humidity around 60%, so consider using a humidifier or pebble tray if your home is on the dry side.
