This cheerful sounding wind chime is tuned to an uplifting pentatonic scale and named after American composer Harry Partch (1901-1974), who taught us that science and magic can harmonize in music. Probably in part because he grew up with Mandarin, Spanish and Native American songs, Partch felt restricted by the modern scale of western music. He forged a new style of music using principles of pure tuning thereby expanding the musical possibilities. Partch wrote much of his music for sculptural instruments that he built himself. He was, in his own words, "a philosophic music-man seduced into carpentry". The scale of Chimes of Partch is common in the music of many ancient civilizations and is still heard throughout the world today.
