How to Install a Water Filter Under Your Sink?

Here are some easy steps to guide you on how to install a water filter faucet. These steps allow beginners to set up their filters under the sink smoothly.

Locate the water valve which is attached to the cold water line under the sink. Turn off the valve by rotating it in the clockwise direction until it is fully closed to stop the water flow. This will stop any leaks or flooding while the filtration system is being installed.

Open the kitchen faucet to drain any remaining water in the lines. It will help in reducing the water pressure and making it safer to disconnect them easily.

Select a location on the cabinet wall that will be easy to access when you need to change the filter. Make sure you have enough clearance around the chosen spot for the filter and the tubing that will connect it to the faucet.

Mount the bracket. Make small starter holes for the screws using a drill. Position the bracket and insert the screws, tightening them securely. The bracket must be mounted firmly as it will hold the filter in place.

After putting together the filter bracket, the next step is to take apart the current cold water supply line. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen and remove the nut that connects the cold water supply line to the faucet. Be sure to place a bucket under the area to catch any leftover water that might come out when you remove the nut.

Attach the filter’s inlet hose. Connect the hose from the filter to the cold water valve. Secure it with a compression fitting, ensuring a tight connection. Wrap Teflon tape around the threads to prevent any leaks.

Take the hose from the filter’s outlet and connect it to the faucet’s cold water line. Check that it is properly aligned, and that the connection is firm and tight. For extra insurance against leaks, use Teflon tape on all the threaded connections.

Tip

Make sure that all the fittings are secure. Do not overtighten any of the fittings or you could damage the threads, which would lead to future problems.

Gradually turn the cold water valve counterclockwise to restore water flow. Inspect all connections closely for leaks. As air bubbles can trigger false leak alarms in some.

Let the water run for 5 to 10 minutes to flush any air out of the system. This also activates filter media. Monitor the installation for leaks during this time.

You did it! Your under-sink filter installation is now complete. Now just be sure to monitor the filter at regular intervals. If you follow these simple steps and maintain the needed water quality.
