Folding towels correctly can transform the look of your bathroom or laundry room. Whether you want a neatly organized linen closet or a sleek finish, knowing how to fold towels is both simple and practical. This article will explore easy and creative ways to fold towels for a polished look.

How Do You Fold a Towel

There is more than one proper way to fold a towel to save space or create an appealing design.

The Third-Way Fold

This is one of the most common and easiest ways to fold towels. It is perfect for small spaces with limited things to keep.

  • Fold the towel in half from the longer or vertical side.
  • Next, fold the towel again in half the same way until it forms a long rectangle.
  • Continuing to fold the smaller side, fold it until you reach a third of the towel's length.
  • Fold the remaining part over it and you will get a perfect compact towel.

Rolling Fold

Here's how to fold a bath towel like the ones commonly found in hotel washrooms. This can also be included in the third-way fold, but its look will be different.

  • Fold the towel two-thirds from the smaller or horizontal side.
  • Fold the other side on top of it, giving it a rectangular shape.
  • Starting from the bottom, tightly roll the towel until it forms a roll shape.

Neat Edged Fold

This folding method will help you keep the edges inside and clean, which is a common issue among towels. Towel edges tend to get dirty easily as they are on the outer side.

  • Fold the towel vertically inwards until it reaches the middle of the towel and fold the other side until both sides meet in the middle.
  • Now, you have a rectangle with the edges both folded in the middle.
  • Do the same for the smaller side. Fold from both sides until the edges meet in the middle.
  • Flip one side on top of the other. This will keep all the edges inside.

Pocket Shaped Fold

This is how to fold towels fancy while keeping them on display, which also makes them look neat and sophisticated.

  • Start by laying the towel out vertically on a flat surface. If you’re working with a large towel, like a bath towel, fold it in half. For smaller towels, like hand or dish towels, leave it flat.
  • Fold the towel in half lengthwise.
  • Fold the smaller side only to the length of your palm, giving it a pocket design.
  • Fold the other side in small sections overlapping until it reaches the other side.
  • When you get to the last fold, stuff it inside the pocket on the other side.

Envelope Fold

This is one of the best ways to fold towels that are big and square. It also works if you want to hang them on the bar or a shower rod in the washroom.

  • Make sure the towel is crisp, dry and fresh. Lay it on a flat surface in a diamond or star position.
  • Fold the bottom corner on your side inwards until it reaches the opposite side, giving it a triangle shape.
  • Take the left edge of the triangle and fold it inside until it reaches two-thirds of the space.
  • Take the right edge and tuck it inside the left edge securely so it doesn’t slip out.
  • This will resemble an open envelope shape.
  • Take the top edge of the triangle and fold it downwards until it passes the end of the pocket.
  • Flip the towel and tuck the edge inside the opening at the bottom.

Tip

If you want to hang this on a rod, wrap it around it before tucking it inside the opening at the bottom.
