Build a Horseshoe Pit

Add 4 inches of paver base material into the trench. Compact and level as you go.

Construct the first course of the back wall using five pieces of wall block (one of which you'll cut in half). Place the first 1/2 block at a corner and level from side to side and front to back. Level the block by adding or removing some of the base material. You can also use a rubber mallet to tap the block to help with leveling. Once you install the first block, butt the second full block up to it, and level and align it off the first block. Add three more full block, and finish the course with the other 1/2 block. Once you install the first course of the back wall, start the courses for both side walls by butting the 8-inch side of the first block up to and even with the end of each block on the back wall. Install three more blocks on each side. Level, align and square each side up to the back wall.

Add the second course to the back wall by starting a full block on the corner and working over to the other side (using all full blocks).

Lay the third course by repeating the same pattern as the first course (starting and ending with a 1/2 block).

For the fourth course, repeat the second course (all full blocks). Once the fourth course is complete, install two beads of construction adhesive on the top of the block.

Install the fifth and final course by rotating the block 90 degrees, leaving a 2-inch overhang on both the front and back.

Add 2 inches of sand, and let the horseshoe tournament begin!
