Lowe’s and Indianapolis Volunteers Bring Camp to Life for Underserved Youth

Just in time for summer, Lowe’s and Indianapolis community volunteers spent the day painting, landscaping and restoring trails at Camptown, an Indianapolis-based organization dedicated to bringing the outdoors to underserved youth.

The goal? Transform Camptown’s 26-acre Base Camp into an urban outdoor adventure hub to increase the number of children who can access outdoor learning and adventure.

Camptown received a $400,000 Lowe’s Community Impact grant to support the renovation. Later this summer, Lowe’s will announce an additional 99 grant-funded renovation projects to help renovate and rebuild vital community resources like Camptown.

Our Impact in Action

Lowe’s and Sleep in Heavenly Peace Deliver for Children in Need of a Bed

Just days after thousands of Lowe’s associates and community volunteers came together in Charlotte, North Carolina, to build 10,000 beds for children in need, those same beds were already making a difference in Atlantic City.

“We presented at a local elementary school in March of this year, and within that day, we had applications for over a hundred beds, and they’ve continued to come in,” said Sarah Fulton, Sleep in Heavenly Peace New Jersey Chapter president.

Over just two days, Lowe’s and Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers zigzagged through Atlantic City, braving rain and traffic jams to deliver 54 beds. Their goal was simple and heartfelt: make sure every child on their list had a cozy place to rest their head at night.

Lowe’s Helps Community Service Site Grow Hope

The Clark County Veterans Garden, a criminal justice community service site, has long served as a source of nourishment and purpose. The nonprofit based in Vancouver, Washington, grows fresh food for local food banks while providing a pathway for reintegration and connection for those exiting the justice system.

Now, with the help of a Lowe’s Community Impact Grant, the organization is expanding its capacity to give even more. The grant is helping fund a new 30-foot-by-72-foot greenhouse on the garden property. Once completed, the structure will extend the garden’s growing season, significantly increasing the amount of fresh produce the organization can donate to the community’s food banks.

Our Community Engagements

Community Impact Projects

At Lowe’s, we believe strong communities are built by the people who know them best. Every neighborhood has opportunities to grow — whether it’s restoring a shared space, improving places where neighbors connect or increasing access to vital resources. Meaningful change starts with local ideas, and that’s where our commitment begins. Every year, we invite customers and associates to share ideas for community-improvement projects inspired by the needs and potential of their hometowns.

Safe and Affordable Housing

Each year Lowe’s partners with select nonprofits, such as Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity, to identify and complete critical home repairs in the most vulnerable neighborhoods across America. As a home improvement retailer, we’re uniquely suited to address this issue — not just through financial contributions but also by providing the products needed to get the job done.

Every year, Lowe’s Red Vest associates provide hearts-in, hands-on expertise by teaming up with our nonprofit partners at many of the home repair projects, sharing in the opportunity to help their communities thrive.

Disaster Relief

As a home improvement retailer, Lowe’s priority is to be there for our associates and communities before, during and after a natural disaster. Following disasters, our recovery efforts include distributing critically needed cleanup supplies through our Bucket Brigades, partnering with local organizations to hand out free meals, and deploying our mobile Tool Rental Disaster Response Trailer to help people get both homes and businesses up and running.

Our support for communities also includes financial support of numerous disaster relief nonprofits that respond to immediate needs and rebuilding efforts in the months and years following the event.
