Minwax  Wood Finish Color Series Oil-based Clear Tint Base Semi-transparent Tintable Interior Stain ( 1-gallon )

hard to apply

I had it tinted a color and was not pleased with how it applied to the wood. It seems blotchy, and variations were hard to control. The wood was pine, so that may have been the problem. I ended up painting it instead.

It’s a Minwax product and the quality is as expected.

Color wasn't close

Ordered "Rustic Cherry". Should have known I was in trouble when the splash on the can was purple. Tested on a piece of red oak and pine and it came out dark purple. Anybody need a gallon of stain for a kids room?

Does not act like a stain.

I got this in the Colton Blue color. The color itself is fantastic, but it does not actually stain the wood. There is very little penetration. It sits on top even after a couple coat tries. Had I realized this, I would’ve just painted with a similar color. It might be a look you like depending on what you need, but the most important thing to know is it DOES NOT function like a typical stain.

Great product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband uses this product on all his construction jobs now. It is such good quality and holds up so well. Last years if applied correctly on all jobs. The coverage is exceptional. The instructions are very accurate and described very well. Drys quicker than I thought would also.

Not close.

Bought aged barrel, it was more like a gray/blue paint. Nothing close the sample.

This is like watered down paint.

I've used Minwax many times. I probably have 15-20 cans of it. I was glad to see all the color options in an oil based stain. As another reviewer stated you cannot buy the little can for small projects or to test it so had to get a quart. This version works more like the water based stain aka watered down paint. The little stain that couldn’t.

Absolute joke of a product. Guessing the reason it is thick is due to issues with being able to tint it with paint tints. Did cover well when applied but no matter how long it’s left on, 5 minutes or an hour, all but a very tiny amount wipes off even when used on super soft wood. Could barely tell I had put it on except a little bit in the grain. Definitely not the product you need if trying to use a color unavailable in the regular stains.

Awful

I absolutely do not like this stain. They don't make a sample size so I have to buy a quart and pray that the color will work out, which it didn't. The product is so thick that it is basically paint. It does not get absorb into the wood at all. What a waste of money. I wish I read the review before I buy it. Most of the 5-star reviews are "promotional".
