It's rather hard to grind the head off the rivet, but I managed.

It swivels on my greenhouse roof truss

These swivel brackets are ideal for variety of poles as trusses on my 8x10 sloped greenhouse roof. I can raise lower roof profile and bracket self adjusts to new angles. I've used with 3/4 structural pipe, 3/4 pvc and 3/4 conduit (half the cost of structural). That said, I do wish there was a way to tighten up the side slop. The rotation of the bracket is good, the looseness side to side is less than ideal.

Not Designed to Lock the Angle

A pipe fitting into the lower socket is locked into place with a set screw. Likewise, a pipe fitted into the pass-through socket is also locked in place. However, the center joint does not lock in place. This can be accomplished by cutting the rivet off (or drilling it out) and replacing the rivet with a 5/16" bolt and nut - use 2 or 3 flat washers to create a snug fit. The manufacturer would increase the project usefulness by making this option available.

I agree with one of the users, that this would NOT be appropriate for a safety handrail. Threaded galvanized pipe would be much sturdier, each handrail connection using a minimum of 1, 90degree elbow and 1 tee for a floor support or 1 tee for a wall support. Other configurations are also possible. However, I have used these SteelTek swivel sockets as gussets for cross-bracing, and have found they can be adjusted to give very sturdy and nearly non-play connections in that particular application.

Okay but a bit sloppy

Great for creating an off angle rail, but the swivel is a bit sloppy/floppy. You may want to drill out the rivet and replace with a bolt to tighten it up. Oh Yeah check your bag when you pick up fittings. Verify that all the locking screws are in the bag before you leave the store.

Safety Handrail fail

This swivel socket seemed a great idea to build a safety handrail for elderly. But when I received it, at the swivel point, there is so much slack, there were no adjusting it. The whole top rail was so wobbly it was not useable for the safety rail. A friend drilled out the grommets that were non adjustable at the swivels and put bolt & washers and was able to fill the gaps with extra washers to make them not wobbly at the joints.

Sturdy fittings!

Very sturdy fittings. The base flanges should be a bit larger diameter to accommodate larger 3/8 anchors.

DIY

Purchased this product to create hand rails on our concrete stairs. The stairs are in the flood area of the river bank. So it was necessary to have them removable at the end of each season. The removable set screws make that easily posssible. Yet the product creates a sturdy project once in place. Very heavy weight material.

Very sloppy joint!! Cannot be used...

For a "structural" fitting this thing is a piece of junk. The swivel joint has so much side-to-side play that it is useless for any structural application. There is no way to adjust the amount of play, either. I honestly cannot think of an application where this would work, because the sloppy joint would either mess with alignment, or would cause wobbling fittings.

Outdoor stair rail system

Good for DIY rail. But needs a rubber washer to tighten up the pivot joint once in place or the attached rail will wobble.
