Overpriced and poor quality

This smoker was plagued by a myriad of problems: 1) The paint on the exterior of the firebox immediately began peeling off in large flakes during the seasoning process. Per OJ's website, the smoker should be allowed to reach 300 degrees for 2-3 hours. Update Highland Reverse Flow Smoker - No Mods

Posted earlier about the excellent fit and quality of my new Highland Reverse Flow Smoker. Yesterday I finally got the opportunity to season it. After reading everything I could on what others have done, I decided to use a paint brush to apply a thick coating of 100% pure Canola oil (appears thicker than spray oil). Great smoke flavor

I bought mine 2 moths ago I’ve smoked a wide range of meats. I bought a 2nd thermometer to get a better reading on the inside temperature. The left side runs 25-50 degrees warmer than the right side no matter what adjustments I make. I consider a professional Chef I’ve worked in a restaurant for many years. Love it

About to start my 3rd season with this barrel of fun. It took a couple months to figure it out, coming from a cheap crap offset barrel charboil or w/e. Its pretty windproof, this thing (without a cover) survived the 120+mph Derecho that destroyed my part of Iowa, even this winter a gusty night blew my neighbors kamado joe off the patio and broke all the interior ceramics.. The good and the bad.

I like that the product is affordable , however it is sub par to former versions of the Oklahoma Joes products. On the initial burn in only for 45 minutes at 300 , the top of the firebox paint chipped off bad. OJ is sending me replacement paint which is good, but this is due to their steel being thinner than products in the past. Other than that, the item leaks smoke all over the place. First burn in

Didnt smoke with it yet but the assembly and burn in went very well. Only thing I wish was designed differently is closer spec on smoke stack and design for securing legs and stack other than a clamp bolt design. I did use the door clamps and OK mod seals. Put the seals around both doors and between 2 halves of firebox and not between firebox and cooking chamber. Needed 2 rolls of seal ti finish but have plenty left over. Did not have any smoke leak between firebox and cook chamber without seals...

Love this smoker!

I've been cooking for years, but this is my first smoker. I did lots of shopping around, watched lots of YouTube videos and strongly debated wheather to go old school or go with an automatic type smoker. Obviously I went old school and I'm glad I did! I jumped in with both feet by smoking a brisket on my first go around. The brisket didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but I learned a lot about the Oklahoma Joes. Love my smoker

I ordered mine 4-5 months ago. Got lucky and it was on sale and shipping was free. Have used it several times smoking brisket, prime rib, pork butt, chuck roast, turkey, chicken, beef and pork ribs. My learning curve has been pretty short. Every thing cooked was great. It’s best to “baby sit” while cooking but I enjoy that. I did get the fire too hot while seasoning and some paint on the fire box bubbled a little but it was easy to touch up. I’d highly recommend!

Never has worked properly

I bought oklahoma joes smoker about 1 year ago. It hasn't worked properly from the start. It shuts off about an hour in every time I use it. I paid over $1000. With smoker and cover and pellets and paper. I've contacted oklahoma joes. They have sent me replacement parts 3 times to install. I've installed them and still no luck. Highland Reverse Flow

Great smoker. Like others who have commented, you must maintain the smoker, I also use peanut oil, and touch up the outside once a season with black grill paint. From the start I was able to set the temp. and walk away for 1/2 hour periods without temp. variations, now I use a ThermoWorks Signals and Control fan which gives me one hour increments of unattended smoking.
