At 72, with more than a few heath issues, using my gas Stihl line trimmer (even with its back and belt harness) has become way more difficult for me than I need to experience. I needed something lighter that I didn't have to struggle with pulling a starter cord. Since I have other Kobalt 80V tools, I had two extra Kobalt 80V batteries and didn't need another. This made purchasing only the Kobalt 80V line trimmer an easy choice. As soon as the trimmer was delivered today, I wanted to use it, but ...

If I'd only known . . .
. . . what an improvement this string trimmer is over my old 2-cycle unit. I'm a 58 year-old mechanical engineer and although my old trimmer worked fine, I rarely ever used it because of the noise and the vibration. I'd always been skeptical of battery operated tools thinking nothing could compare to a good old IC engine but after using my sister's low cost cordless trimmer, I thought I'd give it a try. I bought the 80V trimmer more on an impulse after a Lowe's employee told me about the fre...
Low quality and short battery life
Bought this product to replace an old gas trimmer that paid its dues over 20 years. Pluses in my mind when purchasing this model were that the battery was rated for properties 1/2-1acre (I have 1/2 acre), and that it has a universal attachment shaft so that I could swap out different tools (such as edger, trimmer, power broom, etc). Ran into three problems. First, the knob to tighten the adjustable hand grip came stripped, so I'm dealing with a loose handle. Second, the battery drops off as I'm ...

Phasing out the 80 volt
Over the years I have acquired quite a few of the Kobalt 80volt tools. The edger, tiller, pole saw, blowers and even the weed eater (String Trimmer). The neck of my trimmer broke yesterday, and I called and was told to take it back to Lowes. I was told the 80 volt was no longer available. I got an instore credit instead! All I wanted was the part for the neck to hold guard and head on! Now I have to start replacing my entire system, i guess!

QC, balance problems, and def. not for lefties
I chose this trimmer because I already own an 80V max lawn mower, and because this particular model promised flexibility of using additional attachments. Unfortunately, there were several issues that made this an unsatisfactory product for my needs. First, on the additional unit that I received, the knob to attach the handle was cross-threaded and could not be used. After a rather difficult customer service experience, I returned the unit and awaited shipment of a replacement. The replacemen...

Good and Bad
I purchased my first one in April of 2018 and it worked flawlessly until last weekend when i got halfway through weed eating my yard. The unit shut off and would not come back on (no lights, no nothing). The battery still showed a full charge. I took the battery out and put in my 80v blower and it worked. This has a 5 year tool warranty but I was not able to find the original receipt so I went to my local store to just pick up a new one rather than go through the potential hassle of not havi...
THE Trimmer to Have!
I got the trimmer and blowers last summer. The trimmer is great! I recommend! It's about 13lbs like other gas trimmers and high power cordless trimmers. The balance is far different from the other gas and high power cordless trimmers. It is center weighted so you carry most of it w/ your left hand on the loop since the motor is right below. It felt easier to swing around and more maneuverable than most. Most of the others you carry a bit of the weight in the right hand trigger area. The balance ...
Just What I Needed
I went to Lowes to get a gas powered trimmer to replace the Toro 4 stroke that I had worn out. I have two acres of land and a 385 foot driveway that I trim. My previous experience with battery trimmers (the Works) was that they couldn't handle the yard I had. Battery lasted about 15 minutes and the line was so thin it couldn't cut through much. When I got to Lowes I saw the display for the 40 and 80 volt Kobalts. I talked to the Lowes associate and he assured me he had used the 80 volt trimmer a...
Too Heavy for me...
I purchased the Kobalt 80-Volt Max 16-in Straight Cordless String Trimmer about 24 months ago. I just put it for sale in my neighborhood. I don't want it any more. While they unit has more than enough power (two settings), the battery lasts more than enough time and the battery charges quickly, it is HEAVY and I feel it is balanced wrong. I had to purchase a shoulder strap for about $20 that made it tolerable to trim the lawn but still not comfortable. My shoulders ache for two days after us...
Dang good weed eater
Okay, I have always hated electric weedeaters, and loved my gas power. But, I am so tired of them dying every two or three years! I use ONLY ethanol free gas, I take care of them, but still, 2 or 3 seasons and you're yanking your arm out trying to start them, changing plugs, cleaning carbs, etc. And, if you take them to the mechanic, it will cost you more than just buying a new one. So, after reading tons of reviews, on this, and every other battery powered weed eater, I took the plunge. Sal...
