What Customers Are Saying
The power tool offers a smooth and powerful sanding performance with variable speed control. It features an effective dust collection system and is lightweight and comfortable to hold, allowing for extended use. The battery life is reported to be long, especially with higher capacity batteries. While some minor issues with weight distribution, dust bag removal, and the on/off switch were noted, the tool is generally considered an excellent cordless option that provides great value and performance for DIY and light-duty professional applications.

I had a Bosch cordless orbital sander for several years and the weight distribution of the battery and the sander was perfect. I recently bought this Kobolt cordless sander because I wanted to take advantage of the many other cordless Kobolt tools I have so that I can share the battery. Well - the battery placement on the Kobolt is in such a way it puts strain on your hand while holding it. There is no easy sanding position, whether flat down or on a wall or ceiling, there's stress on your ha...
Is it time to finally cut the cord?
There are a lot of things that Kobalt got right with this tool and a couple that they could have done better. It comes with the sander, a dust bag, and three 5" 8 hole hook and loop sanding disks of varying grit (60, 120, and 220). The on-off switch is dust sealed and the variable speed dial has 6 settings. This is a fairly compact sander especially with a 2ah battery attached. It does feel a little easy to tip over in the direction of the battery (even with the smaller 2ah) so I imagine this ...
Great Machine, but hard to maintain
The random orbital sander is wonderful on drywall and great for small outdoor jobs. I would love to recommend it to a friend or anyone else that appreciates Lowes and how they stand behind their product. My issue is the removable bag that does a good job of collecting the dust, but is almost impossible to easily remove. I fear I would break the product. I shouldn't need to pry it off or twist like there was no tomorrrow. I heard the click when putting it on, but removing was darn near impossibl...
So, here's the thing.....
I'ma Pro. I use this thing every day. As a sander it's great. No prob with the batteries, as I have 8 of them. But, when the hook and loop pad fails, and your sanding discs won't adhere anymore, whataya do? Well, ya search for a replacement backing pad. Unfortunately, replacements do not exist for this one. Yeah, there are many 4 hole backers out there, but alas, they won't fit this sander. So, I have this nice sander that still works, with no available parts to get it back on the productio...

Premature motor burn out.
Bought this tool 2 years ago since I have most Kobalt tools, but never used it (sitting in my tool chest) until I started my kitchen cabinet re-surfacing project. I hooked it up to my wet/dry vacuum and after 2 cabinet doors, the tool starting smoking. I immediately turned it off. After about 5 mins, I tried to turn it back on and it was dead. I went to my local Lowe's and the manager honored the warranty and replaced it for me. The same day, the new tool failed again. I have a project to comple...

Wow!
I go through these types of sanders every couple of years or so. With the exception of Festool I have used probably every single one on the market, I have had Skil, Craftsman, Ridgid, Ryobi corded and cordless, Milwaukee, Bosch, Etc. I have been using a corded DeWalt and the cordless Ryobi which I personally did not like, outside of Festool I think this is the only brushless sander on the market and when you turn this thing on you will notice quite a difference between this sander and others lik...
TAKES 80 GRIT SCRATCH" RIGHT OUT
I'm using it for pre-primer work on metal, works very well for that use with 220 grit on it. i actually hook my shop vac into it to have almost no dust hit the floor, the bag didn't work so well it would puff out dust after a short time, was just too fine of a powder on auto paint and metal for the dust bag to handle .
I use this to finish all my wood projects!
I don't get some of the bad reviews to be honest, Ive had nothing but good luck with this guy but to each there own, if I got a bad one I'd trade it in immediately for another but haven't had that be my case. it does everything a sanders supposed to do, the hook pad has held up phenomenally over the last couple years (which you can replace in pretty sure). dust collection works good , great power and nice finishes from my end! no problems here and definitely recommend!
Kobalt Orbital Sander
The orbital sander was a compulsive purchase and much need, brought this sander for a diy project. I was a bit nervous about using it because it was my first time I must say it was lightweight and easy to use very durable and powerful and surprisingly on the quiet side. It holds up to the kobalt quality brand. If I can do it anyone can use it without any problem. During the holiday times Loews normally have a lot of good sale of their tools in All of the brands. Highly recommend

Making time
I purchased the orbital sander this morning. I use to use an old vibrating sander I purchased about 40 years ago. It served me well. Today I used the Kobalt orbital sander, with 60 grit paper on it. I sanded down the top of a picnic table that I keep outside covered with a plastic tarp. The table top was all brown and gray from the plastic rubbing on it. It took me an hour to sand but WOW, what a great job it did. I did the same thing about 3 years ago with the old sander and I was out there for...
