Slightly Disappointed

For over 50 years, I used competitor's mowers with relatively good success. However. I saw the S170 at Lowe's and like the heavy duty transmission aspect as well as the larger wheels. None of my other brand mowers in recent years have required greasing of the spindles and I had no problems. It doesn't concern me that S170 spindles require lubrication. Comfortable tractor-style mower

Just took delivery. I have only used it for one mowing session. My old mower had been broken for a while, so this mower had to take on six inches of growth which it did with ease. The tall grass was pretty wet and my lawn is hilly, but I had good traction except when trying to mow while turning sharply uphill. But the tires never ripped up my turf like the old mower's tires did. The mower did a B-plus job of a level mow even on such tall grass. I will give it a more fair test on my next mow. I'...

Great mower I mow about 3 acres with out issues

Mower is strong and cuts well. I have only had the mower for about a month but just love how smooth it rides and handles.

Should have gone to the John Deere store

Should have went to the John Deere store. They would have delivered the mower a clean damage free mower to the house at no cost. Here is how buying the mower from Lowe's went. Lowes and John Deere do not care

Great Value

This JD S170 so far has been great. Starts right up and the 24 hp V-twin runs very smooth and plenty of power. Although id never accuse it of being the most fuel-efficient engine, that's part of the program with a larger, more powerful engine. Besides mowing, it will be able to tow up to 500 lbs. after break-in, great for lawn roller and lawn cart. This machine replaced an older JD D105 that was getting long in the tooth. DO NOT BUY A JOHN DEERE FROM LOWES!

I paid $400 for an extended warranty when I bought my mower in 12/2025. My mower died and I reached out to Lowes for help. They sent me to a website which works half the time and the automated system said there wasn't a service shop in my area. I went into the Lowes Store and they told me that they don't do service work any longer and had me scan a QR code at the register. I would not buy it again or recommend it

I would definitely NOT recommend this tractor for several reasons: 1. When PTO is engaged, it is extremely loud, I have owned 3 other tractors in the past, all above 20 HP... but this one is insanely loud, it makes using it unpleasant and punishing. I used to enjoy spending an hour cutting my lawn, now I don't like it at all. Yes, I use high-end hearing protection, or I would be deaf from using this mower. 2. Very Disappointed

I bought an S170 at Lowe's 10 months ago, and the hour meter has already stopped working. It no longer shows the fuel level (full tank) or engine hours (21.3). Lowes's says the warranty is from John Deere, and John Deere says I need to pay $160 so they can pick up the tractor and bring it to their shop so a "John Deere technician" can unplug the old unit and plug in a new one. Or I can save $100 by paying $60 for a new unit and plugging it in myself. It's really despicable that John Deere treats...

Great mower. Bad oil filter design

I went a little bigger than I needed and does the job quite well. Love the mower but my only issue is the oil change system. When done as designed only 1/3 of the oil is changed. I will be doing the filter conversion asap.
