The Google mini is an absolute necessity after having tried it. At first I did have a hard time figuring out the settings to get it to work with my contact list and finding my grocery list and some other things. First off, let's be clear. The kit includes a smart bulb and a Google mini. You don't have to have one to use the other and I'm not sure why they say to put them in the same room. Maybe during setup but afterwards you can put them anywhere your wifi reaches.
