Changing out existing First Alert Smoke detectors
First Alert used their heads, and kept the electrical wiring plug connection the same as the original detectors purchased when I built the house 2004. It took literally a minute to remove the existing detector, plug the new one in, and twist it into the existing locking ring. I did have two detectors I had to replace the locking ring on, (too small for the new detectors) but that was as simple as loosing up the screws securing the locking ring to the electrical box by about 1/4"-3/8" then turn...

Buy if you want to be woken at 3am
Bought 5 of these to replace 12 year old alarms in a house we just bought. The sticker on the back does not match the actual LED meaning. If it's blinks red once a minute, it's fine. It is NOT on battery power as the sticker says. But worst of all, 1 will chirp 3 times then nothing, at 1, 2, 3 am...for no reason. No rapid red flash to indicate WHICH one went off. And it's not the same one that does it. One night it's the basement hall, then weeks with no false alarms, then it's an upstair bedroo...
Battery strips stuck
I purchased 28 of these. I had great difficulty removing the battery activation strip in eight of them. The strip was so embedded that pulling hard actually pulled open the "sealed" battery drawer. I then had to remove the battery to remove the strip (or fragments thereof), reinstall the battery, and carefully and forcefully push the battery drawer closed again while the 'sealing' pin was still in place (could not be removed). All in all a big hassle for over one-fourth of the batch. Needs bette...

Good for Rentals
Able to wire and have a 10 year backup NON removeable battery. comes with 3 wire adapters so u don't need to spice any wiring. side note, if it is going off in the middle of the night, then disconnect it and shake the multi roaches out of it. apply dusking and bait to it
Worked Fine for Less Than a Year
Alarm worked fine for less than a year, then started intermittent beeping. Replaced with a new one and so far is working fine after about a month. Recommend you ensure you keep the warranty literature and call the manufacturer for replacement if necessary. It was supposed to last 10 years, but only made it about a year. Probably was a fluke and just a defective unit. Manufacturer will replace if you give them a call. Recommend product, but be aware that it may not last 10 years as advertised.

Beware they may send you returned merchandise
Previously sold torn packaging, previous customer plugged in pigtail that doesn’t work with my detectors. Sneaky way of palming off return goods to me .

Replacement Smoke Detectors
If you are replacing hard-wired smoke detectors, double check that the new units are compatible with your current system. In our case, installing the replacement detectors was a matter of simply plugging them into the existing wiring. I can’t give a 5 star rating to this product because it hasn’t (thankfully) been put to the test and is supposed to last 10 years, so ask me in 2031.

"10-Year" Battery Dead
All my smoke alarms are hardwired... I am replacing all the older ones as they go bad with the 10-year battery life version. Two so far have had dead/low batteries right out of the box. The others I have installed have worked great and I certainly recommend them, but be wary of the "10-year" claim.
Long lasting battery
I bought these because of the 10-year lithium ion battery life and the warning that you get when the 10 years is up. No more climbing shakey ladders and fiddling with these every year.

replacement time
We replaced all three of your smoke detectors, after comparing smoke detectors in the market place, we found the FIRST ALERT HARDWIRED photoelectric sensor was the right smoke detector for our replacement needs.
