What Customers Are Saying
The product is compact, lightweight, and accurate for quick measurements. The magnetic mount and self-leveling features are useful. However, some users experienced issues with the laser turning off unexpectedly, the device not powering on, and unclear instructions. The quality control and documentation problems make this a risky purchase for some customers.

Got the 40ft laser measurer for my mother for Christmas, tested it a few times and finally figured out how it worked and the different modes feet and inches and metric modes. As I said basically figured it out as the thing came with one small piece of paper with some pictures for use instructions. All my testing seemed to indicate the device to be even more accurate than stated on the packaging. I would have probably given 41/2 stars if it came with some kind of clear understandable instructions...

Perfect - Used for tile
Doing some tricky wall tile work that needed perfect level. Laser level was the answer as the level line isn't covered by thin set as opposed to pencil drawn or a snap line and is very accurate. The tool self leveled perfectly and I tested it manually several different ways to verify (magnet, stool, tub edge, vertical , horizontal, etc.) - perfect every time . The only problem I had with self leveling is when the unit was upside down and that is user error not product issue. (So many proud mom...
Not bright enough for outdoor use
I picked this up today to use on a patio roof project that has a triangle shaped room that juts out in the middle of it. Getting the angle for the slope of the roof was easy on the portions that are flat but the triangle protrusion will require the ridge board to be placed along a 45 degree wall and also follow the slope of roof for the flat portions. So I got this laser level since it's got a manual lock which is what I need but it's not bright enough for outdoor. It's already past 7pm and comp...
Waste of money
I used this one time to help install laundry shelves, and it worked flawlessly. Level was stored and protected like any electronic instrument should be for a few months, but less than a year. Another shelf project was needed for a utility room and now it will not self level no matter what. It is absolutely useless and was a waste of money. This is not the Craftsman quality that I have been used to for so long now.
# Do not recommend
This is crooked at all angles, and the visibility at 52 inches is only about 6 ft wide (unless you want to work in the dark). At 20 feet, you can not see the laser at all. i just wanted a straight line across a 13 ft wall. I'm taking it back.

Great quality!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Such a simple tool yet very handy. This red cross line lazer comes with the 2 AA batteries that you need. The battery compartment is a little flip close that firmly stays shut. There is a slide button that has an on locked setting, on unlocked setting and an off setting. super easy to use this. It's pretty much a no brainer. It even comes with a sturdy magnetic mount that is an L bracket and using this makes it a one-man job which is something ...

Sad
The online description says 36 ft. The packaging when I received it says 33 ft. Neither is even close. For outside use you have to have a much better laser than this. Inside it will shoot at 36 ft. Outside you will do good to get 10 ft. Very Sad. If you really want to use one outside you are going to have to spend over 125.00

Not what I expect from craftsman, disappointing!
I buy and own a lot of craftsman products. bought this to use outside to level the ground for a 24 ft pool, set it up in the center because the level says good for 30 ft. outside it's actually good for maybe 3 ft. couldn't use it at all. total waste of time. really disappointed in craftsman for this one.
No Instructions anywhere; Can't get it to work.
They say this is a self leveling laser. If it is I have no idea how to use it because for me all it does is emit a red crosshair that never levels. I think the cryptic directions on the inside cover say to set it to unlocked and once it stops blinking it is level. I set mine like this for 20 minutes and it never leveled.... am I supposed to wait longer? Who knows? it comes with no instructions! I see plenty of reviews on how great and easy this is to use; but I am not seeing it... so either...

4.5 stars!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife loves it! I barely had a chance to try it out before she took possession (she says she’ll let me use it, but I may get another one for my own use). Impressively accurate for it’s small size (make sure you measure from the back of the unit). I wouldn’t use it to determine the length to cut a trim board, but to get an estimate of the materials needed, I’d recommend it 100%. The directions are a little lacking only including some pictures....
