Would Leave ZERO Stars if I could
I will say this is by far the worst water heater you could buy, followed by the worst warranty procedure and protocol. The water heater itself is easy to install, they all are, and they all have the same basic three connections. Cold Water In, Hot Water Out, and Electrical Connection. The water heater when was "great" it worked as advertised for 363 days. On the 364th day it died. NO ERROR CODES. Just spiked in electrical use then had sporadic hot water available. Failure after Failure
Two years ago, I needed a new water heater, and I wanted to get the best I could find for the next 20 years. In theory, the Heat pump should pay for itself in electric savings. In reality, the poor workmanship on this unit leaves it to be nothing but a headache. Add to that the slimy Warranty practices on lemon units, and you have nothing but a pile of junk, waste of time and a great deal of frustration. On my second unit
This is my second unit. Bought the first unit in June 2023. It failed after 7 months. I paid $1000 to have it removed and the new unit installed. Now, the new unit installed on June 2024 is now failing. The issue is the heat pump stops working. I then have to go to Electric mode which is 10 times more expensive. I had to go to the Maryland Dept of Consumer Affairs to help get reimbursed from A O Smith. Now I have the same issue. Deeply disappointed with A O Smith.

App doesn't work
I got this installed a few months ago and the heater itself works well so far - no issues on hot water performance. However, I tried to activate the app and it wouldn't work. So I called customer support, and the confused customer service rep told me (after messaging other tech support staff) there was a server issue and that it should be resolved in a week or so. Works for me
I have had this water heater for 6 months and it has worked well for me. It It is located in an unheated unfinished basement in a cold climate ( suburban Chicago). I installed it myself easily although it is heavy and I had to hire people to move it downstairs. It makes odd, refrigerator like noises, however since it is in the basement they are faint. I could not get the app to work but will try again at some point. I travel for work, and for now I use the manual buttons to do turn it do...

Do not buy
I've had my super expensive hybrid water heater installed for 10 months. The water smells like rotten egg. The Anode Rod has gone bad already. We cannot get replacement parts in my home town of Orlando Fl....No one can shower at my house.....They want to ship me the part, regular, and it will take 4 weeks to get it. Really!!! Cheap piece of S---after paying $3,500 for it!!! and can't get it repaired. DON'T BUY IT!

Leaking Side Outlet
My band new unit has a slow steady leak from the side outlet. The port is capped off at the factory, so this shouldn’t be leaking. Poor quality control. Buy a different brand.

Won't work in basement
My third unit has just failed. Customer service says it must be some environmental issue but won't say what. It's installed in a basement 1600 sq feet, ambient temp is 61 degrees well within the range specified. Offered to buy me out and said they won't cover another replacement. I'm disappointed, when it worked it worked well and used very little electricity, but the compressors keep failing.

Don't buy this product
Ao Smith was unable to register my serial number to the application and I was unable to use the application to communicate with my water heater. I specifically purchased this unit for its online capabilities with notifications and am unable to use them. I am also unable to upgrade the software on the unit since I can't connect to it.

Nothing but pain and suffering
The app doesn't communicate with the heater well, the app logs you out and then you have to re-register once you log back in. The heater is now just flashing three bars and refuses to heat the water. Absolutely 100% would not recommend this to even my enemies. Not AT ALL worth it.
