We bought a slightly larger water heater than we probably needed, but it is working well. Since I am no longer able, I talked my nephew and a friend on how to disassemble on one day and how to connect on the next day. I like that it is easier to light the pilot electronically than the old wh of years ago with long matches. It is somewhat easy as a novice to get working though it took longer since it was an unfamiliar project.

Nice Unit
This was bought to replace my old unit. It makes great hot water. The temperature dial is what I do not like. It is too small and hard to read due to the completely black dial. My old unit, same brand had a bigger dial, black with a white background and also red lines, so much easier to read. Unfortunately AO Smith went cheap with their dials. Also, they do not have a vacation mode on their dial. They are penny wise and dollar foolish. Put better dials on these tanks.

A Fine Water Heater
A hot water heater is designed to heat water and do nothing else. This water fulfills this design goal. It doesn't leak, doesn't make noise, and looks appropriate for the task. It is sized correctly for our needs and I adjusted the water temperature to my satisfaction. No poetry or flowery prose needed. LOL

Typical install and operation
Typical install difficulties just because my basement floor slopes pretty steeply where the water heater goes, so getting it level is always a chore. Instructions were clear and packaging was adequate. One thing to the manufacture would be to add a note about lining up the exhaust baffle as mine moved during shipment and had I not pulled it up and rotated, it would have been cockeyed in the flue. Good Quality
I purchased this product to replace a 17 year old GE water tank. So far my new AOS tank has been operating well. Hope the life of this tank which has a 12 year warranty last as long or longer as my old GE tank.

heats quickly
the height on the front of the box and in the specifications is not the height of the actual tank. Its marked 60.75 in. but the tank is actually 57.75 in. I had to have water pipes replaced unexpectedly due to this.

Great product but has two annoying features.
Fairly easy for my contractor to install but there are two parts that you may want to replace. The drain plug on the bottom is made of cheap plastic and does not have a very wide diameter. This causes drainage to be a lot slower and possibly harder to flow out if sediments build up is high (not to mention that the connection between your hose and this drain can wear out due to this being made of soft plastic). Therefore you may want to replace that with a longer, wider metal one for easier drain...

G12-T5040NVR Gas Water Heater
I purchased this one to replace the General Electric Gas Water Heater that I've had for the last 23 years! Have also had AO Smith products in the past that have also lasted a long while. Had contractor install, but could have done myself, since I had everything I needed already. Pilot lighting was not "immediate", but directions cover that (up to 1-1/2 minutes). Filled tank and let water run for about 20 minutes with faucets open to drain any impurities from the lines. Works as intended!

Great water heater / cheap plastic drain valve.
This water heater was a direct replacement easy to replace my old unit. It provides plenty of hot water really fast. The one thing that is a big negative is the plastic drain valve; for the way over inflated price of this AO Smith could use a brass drain valve!
