What Customers Are Saying
The product has a mix of positive and negative feedback. hi. I can’t open blade storage component and don’t know what the red button is for or what the black part in front of the slider does. So with a dull blade I am stuck with a useless door stop. Very unhappy and disappointed in Stanley. Please help.

utility knife
Would RecommendGreat product, I’m a professional carpenter and I use it daily to cut shims for doors and opening up bundles of wood molding.

Don’t spend the money
Would Not RecommendVery poor quality. I purchased this utility knife with the idea that a Stanley product would be of good quality. I was wrong. The first time I tried to advance the blade the slider button got stuck and I’m unable to move the button forward or backward. I tried to open up the knife by unscrewing the screw in the body of the knife. No tool that I own is able to unscrew the screw. Why would Stanley make a very simple tool so complicated. I spent more money on a Stanley utility knife thst is complet...

Bad blade storage design.
Worst design ever. The red button to open the storage case does not work. You have to fight to get it to get it to release. With shape blades inside you do not want to struggle to open it. Very dangerous.

DO NOT BUY
Would Not RecommendCompletely worthless. This is probably the 20th review complaining about inability to open it, replace blade, etc. Do not waste your time on this. Even Stanley's responses just say "we'll be reaching out to you." What about the rest of us? Can you not post instructions or send documents? What a poor design. Should be discontinued. I'm returning mine unused because it's inoperable.

need better instructions & design
Would Not RecommendI thought this would be an upgrade from the standard utility knife and paid more for it. However 2 complaints: 1) The instructions are minimal and installing a blade according to the instructions (with help of a youtube for similar model) didn't work. The blade disappeared into the body of the tool but I could not retrieve it and could not find a screw driver to take it apart (I tried 7 different screwdrivers, from tiny to lareger but none worked). Finally after fiddling around with it for a w...

What do I use this item for?
Would Not RecommendLike so many other people have indicated this utility knife is of little use. I can't change the blade. The blade that is in there sticks out about an 1/8 of an inch, and I can't get it to move, and can't replace. I did finally get the compartment where the blades are open after taking a knife and wrench to it. Not sure what the red button is for, because pushing it does NOTHING. It is a nice-looking utility knife, but other than that it is useless. Justa womans perspective!!

Blade Stuck inside/Off track
Would RecommendI love my fatmax. Great knife until my guy friend broke it. The blade in stuck inside the case & I can't get it out. Pressed the red button on the end, and moved the blade forward, nothing. I think it's off track and I want to know how to get it unstuck with out opening. I don't have the right tool to open it. It take a guy to break my tool that I've had for 10yrs with no problems. Can someone help me figure it out cu, my guy friend handed it to me. End of story.

Complete and total garbage
Would Not RecommendOthers have complained about putting new blades in. I can't even get to that point because it's impossible to get the storage compartment open where the extra blades are held. Depressing the red circular button is near impossible. Would not recommend at all.

Blade does not release with the black tab pressed
Would Not RecommendThe old blade is stuck. I researched and watched YouTube videos on how to change blades. It is supposed to release with the black tab on the left near the blade pressed down, but it is completely stuck. So once the initial blade got dull, that was it. And it cannot be taken apart to see how it's supposed to work or if it can be fixed somehow.

Not Recommended
Would Not RecommendThe first time I used this the blade ejection assembly jammed after a day's use, so I returned it and got another one. That one jammed because they put the stupid plastic display card inside the assembly and when I cut that off, a piece o0f the vinyl remained inside, so it was unusable. So I took it apart, but Stanley provides no info anywhere on how to reassemble it--it's not obvious or easy. My Dad used Stanley tools in the 50s, and I followed, but they're made in Thailand now--we're done!

Putting Blade in and out
Would Not RecommendUnable to put blade in properly took it apart to put blade in that way and it was so tight like the blade was to big. Need better quality controls.
