Great quality video but way to slow and choppy

These have great quality video but will jot stay connected most of the time. Keeps dropping out and says oops. The audio is useless because it is choppy and cannot hear what anyone says. I have a older wired version without audio that works much better. I was really hoping this would work well. Very disappointed.

Perfect replacement for my old DVR

My son ordered the DVR for me, and it is perfect fit. Fired right up and feel safe again.

Horrible.

I will never buy night owl again. And ive been using them since 2016. My 720 and 1080p cameras, and the old dvr are way better then these 4k. I'm so disappointed. Haven't had them for a year and the cameras are already having problems. The new dvr is useless. I don't understand why you guys took all the best features and got rid of them. I'm so mad i can't even explain all the problems I've encountered within the last 9 months.

Picture quality excellent, playback blurry at time

Playback needs improvement blurry at times. Unable to see clear faces.

Missing basic features from older systems

Recently purchased one of these new 4K systems. I had a 5 year old 1080P system and thought I would upgrade. Will return as basic features that did exist no longer do. Expected it to be better quality video and add and enhance features from the older application. Not the case. Recording/Playback Options Are Antiquated

This system has been installed for almost a month. The setup was great. Using the app for playback/viewing is definitely not great. If the DVR is set for motion detection the option to view in continuous playback is not available. This should be basic technology. When using Time Line playback the app freezes or fails to load the playback. If you are wanting a system with playback/viewing options this is not the system to purchase.

Disappointing

I installed the DVR-BTD8-81 last week. I got it to replace the dvr in my Night Owl C50XFR system. That dvr was knocked out by an apparent electrical surge which came through the Ethernet cable. This BTD8 dvr lacks a lot of the features of the older system. It does not provide the premotion recording of the C50XFR. The sensitivity settings of only Low, Middle or HIgh are not reliable. Unreliable System

The cameras disconnect from the DVR frequently regardless if they are one room away from the system or across the building. Their application to view the cameras is buggy and will not connect to the system half the time

Great System, Easy Setup and Install.

We purchased our system yesterday (02 Jun 2023). This is our third Night Owl system. First one took a beating from Hurricane Michael in 2018 and survived, with a loss of 2 out of 8 cameras, the DVR eventually died. Our second one the motherboard fried after we took a lightening hit 3 weeks ago, turned out our surge protector was no longer protecting, it was now a fancy extension cord. Not an Night Owl issue, so check your surge suppressors out regularly to prevent having your system damaged. ...

Good while it lasted

Purchased a DP8 series 12 Channel wired system. Sam's Club. Great clarity fairly easy to install. The android application was useless, after 6 months as it did not connect with my phone. Sadly the hard drive simply stopped operating after 19 months and warranty is only one year.

Better than LaView

I have a 4 year old LaView system on one house, it’s Ok. But for my rental house, I got this. And this software is better and quality of system is better too. Glad I got this. Will buy again!

Tested but not up

Since the weather has been cold, have not had the chance to install the cameras yet, but tested them inside and was very easy to setup and check out the system, really like that they have spot lights that activate with movement or manually.

Good upgrade

I upgraded from the old 1080p system to the 4K and it is a significant improvement. Not only is resolution 4 times better but the night vision is much brighter, the lens angle is wider, and the Night Owl Protect app is significantly better than the old app. The added refinements make this system so much better

Replaced older system. Pros and cons but probably the best for the money.

Had I only known before I purchased

I defiantly would have passed on this set up all together. How can a company make a set of security cameras, with no audio recording available?? This is my second set of cameras with Night Owl, my first being a WiFi 1080p bundle and they worked so great! I am definitely not happy with these.

This was to replace a NightOwl 1K system 6 years old, which was beginning to fail in several areas. The new software is a HUGE improvement too.

Nice DVR great picture. But laggy, hence 3/5 avg

Very easy to setup, but the laggy video playback from the app and mobile app is very annoying. The picture is much wider than my older camera system, the picture from 1080p to 4K is about the same maybe a tad sharper. I just can't for the life of me figure out the lag issues. I have a 1G internet connection, I stream 4K movies on multiple devices all the time with zero issues. The Windows app is severely lacking in features and being able to change network settings or anything like that. Not eve...
