not what I expected
Would Not RecommendI accidentally purchased water based solid color dark walnut and then went back to get the water based semi-transparent dark walnut. When I opened it, I did not see a difference between the two... both were thick and more like paint (see pic). I expected that with the solid color but not with the semi-transparent. I used water based Minwax wood conditioner as directed to prepare the wood. I applied the semi transparent and started to wipe it off as directed immediately after applying but it was...

It's a solid color stain
Would RecommendI Bought this stain to match some old obsolete stain to refinish some old baseboards and to stain new baseboards. I did not realize the stain is SOLID coverage. It covers/ hides the grain as stated on the label. Not what I wanted but had to get the project done. I found that applying it, then immediately wiping it off with a cloth I got the desired finish that revealed the wood grain to my satisfaction.

Excellent product! Better than oil based.
I have been using this stain in several colors all year and I am very pleased with it. It dries quickly, is easy to clean up with soap and water and is available colors. For best results I found that I must cover it with Chrystal Clear Topcoat to end up with a satin finish that feels smooth.
